Midterm Question 9

AKUA'BA FIGURE
This is a statuette from the Asante Kingdom in Ghana made of wood and supposedly influencing pregnancy. It represents the complication and happiness involved with the safe delivery of a baby. It is an Asante concept of true beauty with some characteristics labeled on the statuette indicating a good health of a baby. This statuette was a family lineage, passed from a mother to her daughter. When a woman is being blessed by a fetish priest, she carries this statuette and treats it as if it was her child with the perception that the gods will favor her and give her a child judging from the degree of care-taking.
